So maybe this is the reason for eccentric tubes. Even though the early production units did not come with eccentrics, eccentrics would have allowed for proper alignment. There must have been a reason for making the change from straight to eccentric.

Use the straight tubes where offset is not required.

Without the eccentric tubes, alignment was random at best. Initially the only spt was the jointer. Alignment was achieved by loosening the cutter head and shifting it.

I assume SS Inc. determined having eccentric tubes was a better method. That allowed each spt to be adjusted to a single M5/V.

A workaround is twisting the base castings on the tubes.

A non-reccommended method(by me) is the height set screw that twists the way tubes.

I would really enjoy watching you try to do this. The tubes fit quite snugly into the base castings.

There are two types of eccentric tubes for the bandsaw. One type, which does not
come standard with the band saw, and must be purchased separately, has two separate tubes connected by a flat piece of steel. This type was indeed designed to allow the Mark V to clear the bigger aluminum table of the newer band saws when the Mark V is raised vertical.

But there is another earlier type of bandsaw eccentric tube, all one piece, that won’t allow the Mar V to get vertical and clear the band saw aluminum table. This earlier type of eccentric is standard with today’s band saw and it exists solely to more easily align the band saw hub horizontally with the headstock hub.

Well, yes and no. The band saw comes with standard offset eccentric tubes used for alignment just like all the other SPT's. The eccentric tubes you are talking about are a separate accessory and are purchased separately. They have a larger offset to allow just what you said.
