Everett,
I have a copy of the Shopsmith Owners Manual, EM-9100-MS-7-54, Copyright 1954 if that would help.

Everett and Wiley,
If we assume and are correct that the last digits in the Manual's identifying numbers & letters are the date released than Wiley's 1954 Manual would be between my first and second one. Wiley can you compare the above headstock drawing to the one in your Manaual. Are the Drive Sleeve parts the same or is it shown as one complete assembly?
Everett,
I have copied into PDFs the Parts List and Supplement but they are to large to post here so I will email them to you.

Thanks Jeff.
As a historian I would love a copy of that manual too I sometimes find subtle corrections and additions in them and the photos and parts illustrations and part numbering can provide subtle changes that some will spot I am sure where they exist.
At some point I can see the need developing where I might create a page in the forum where I list what I have received. Service bulletins service procedures shop techniques release dates and end of productions info is hard to find so I may build that out someday when submission are rolling in.
I think some folks would benefit by having a period manual for the presumptive original configuration as shipped should have been. With 60 plus years of production, upgrades, factory and 3rd party alterations, even parts from cloned machines that may have found their way inside there’s no telling what’s inside now without looking.
Some folks seem to like the redrawn exploded parts lists with new assembly axsis and perspectives so at least for the 1954 fro Russ direct drive, I will do one.

Russ,
The drawing in my manual shows the drive sleeve assembly (Part # 202100) as a complete unit and isn't broken down like your drawing.

Wiley and Everett,
Wiley's copy of
Shopsmith Owners Manual, EM-9100-MS-7-54, Copyright 1954
may very well be the second version of the Manual and shows that the non clutch Drive Sleeve did not last long.
Wiley is your manual an original or photo copy?
When Brenda (thunderbirdbat) gets into the headstock of her new find it may give us a look at it, if her's is early enough. It does not have a Vent/Serial Number Plate but is an "A" Headstock with 8 screws to hold on the belt cover. See

Wiley,
I would love a scanned copy of that manual. Please send it to
ShopsmithHistorian@gmail.com if you would be so kind when you have time.
Russ,
Equally, I would love a copy of your now presumed 3rd manual release when you have time.
Thank you both for your time and help with this project.

Everett,
It will be a while until I have time to scan it. I'm in the middle of a "honey do" and guests coming for the 4th.

I totally understand. Thank you for what you have already done in getting me the first manual.
Wiley has the 2nd and you the 3rd as we understand it. You know from my work on the 10E and 10ER that I try to be thorough and it takes a while.
Thanks again.
