nope.
this one was purchase from Jacob Anderson.
It is slightly fatter than the SS OEM belts offered
by shopsmith.

also, I just noticed that the belt only rubs the way
bar in the high/fast settings. so it appears to be
related to the motor position. it doesn't appear to
effect performance but can not be good for the belt.

I am curious about the length! I am also surprised you describing is as fatter.

If either/both the length or width is different from OEM the belt can indeed track closer to the way tubes.

Does yours have a part number and brand?

I think the manufacturer number is 22/607.
However could be wrong. These old eyes aren’t what they used to be.
The size is 15x675.
Now that being said, I got irritated with the noise and pulled the motor to isolate the problem.
This motor is a GE 1 1/8. If I am not mistaken this is slight larger ( both in power and diameter) than the originally installed motors. That would definitely create the rubbing issue if the footing wasn’t meant to accommidate lager size.
Any how, after testing motor it appears that the slight whining noise was not the belt after all. It appears to be a bearing issue.

A GE 1 1/8 HP motor with the correct end caps/mounting feet should not make any difference. I assume you have a later ss model.

Now the belt IS slightly wider than an EOM belt. The length is also VERY SLIGHTLY longer.

A good substitute IMO, but it will track slightly higher in the pulleys(especially the motor pulley) than an OEM belt which would explain the potential for rubbing the way tube.

That said, normal wear will reduce the width to closer to OEM width. However wear stretching will increase the 'excess' length.

If there is one thing I have learned with my Mark VII motor belt tribulations is that belt size has a great effect on the resultant speed(s). Realize the pulley locations relative to each other is fixed. Any belt width/length variation will result in different belt tracking and movable sheave resultant positioning and thus alter the resultant speed(s).

Unless the potential for rubbing is excessive, I would tend to dismiss it as something to stress over. In the case of the Mark VII that issue puts the belt rubbing over the headstock positioning rack gear(something to worry about).

I am also refurbishing a 1955 model Greenie. I also had the same retaining clip left over. I will look tonight to see if it fits in the location as described above. Thank you all for your help. This forum is a wonderful treasure trove of information.
