The original Model 10 manuals said use a light coat of oil on the moving parts but later Magna the makers of Shopsmiths found out that paste wax provided good lubrication without being sticky like oil. Below is a PDF I made to replace the manual information on using oil.
All the bare metal parts can benefit from being waxed. It will help protect against rust. I even wax the shafts of the motor and drive sleeves to allow the pulleys to move in and out easier to realign the pulley combinations for the additional 4 speeds the Model 10's can run. Below is a PDF I made showing those speeds.
If you have a speed changer you will not need the above chart.
