Didn't they all have the C clip as the spring retainer.

That is why I doubt it is the original motor and is likely a 3/4 hp.

According to records the spring cap was used until later 1973 and replaced by a washer. I don't know or have records of the nut vs. clip. I wish I had taken more pictures of my Mark 5 Restorations for reference.
