I am glad they took care of this for you. Good companies usually stand behind their products and take care of their customers. Hopefully the replacement will be trouble free for you.

It's always the weld. Always except when it's not, but those other cases aren't conveniently identifiable like a broken weld. Improper annealing makes sense as a cause for weld failures, or just a bad weld. If it's not a custom blade I'm sure it was made by a machine, and probably only samples receive any testing.

So...I was busy doing some resaw cuts to make a few more reindeer this season when I heard a grumbling sound coming from the bandsaw-almost like a low chattering and was picking up some vibration thru the board itself.
After shutting down and doing some inspection, I found that atleast 1 of the bearings on my Carter guides (installed over a year ago) is near, but not completely seized. I can force it to turn, but takes some effort whereas the other 3 guides spin freely.
So now I'm wondering if that bearing was going bad and momentarily pinched on my blade-causing it to break-the original reason for this thread ?
Anyways- im going thru the motions to replace the bearings with Carter and learned a few things :
1) Carter does not offer the threaded shaft+washer+dual bearings as a sub assembly. For a complete set you need 4 of these (2 bearing subassemblies for the upper guide, 2 for the lower guide) As each is a dual bearing assembly-this means there are 8 bearings in the complete set.
2) You can get the bearings alone from Carter (XG-BRG-R32RS Bearing $9.00)
3) Carter offered me (if I would buy 4 bearings $36.00) to include the extra hardware to complete the subassemblies myself (threaded shaft+washer)
4) Actually-they just called back and told me that the bearing and rod assembly is press-fit...so they will do that for me and I should just have to screw in the new sub-assembly
I'll let you know how taking them apart/re-assembling goes once they arrive.
