Hi,
The part is for mounting a light, see this post:

for an example of the type of light. The idea for this comes from one of the PTWFE books. It maybe the smaller size yellow version that shipped out of shopsmith back in the 70's.
It is interesting that people are drawn to the part and often ask about it. Anyway I'm glad you ask as I'm sure several other were wondering the same thing.

I think my wife would agree with you but still she lets me budget monies for more of them every year. Now if I only had a place to put them all.

As always, I am amazed at the skill and creativity of all of you guys. As soon as I get some heat in my shop, I think I'll do some of this. I have a some what similar wall cabinet, but not as nice. Maybe the 2nd will be better. Happy new year guys.

nice work. (what an understatement)
could you tell us more about the SS storage and rolling drawers?
did you reinforce the joints or just use screws into the edges of the plywood?
I looked on Lee Valley but could not find the drawers. could you give me a bigger clue?

The box doesn't really need any reinforcement or fancy joints, a butt joint and screws will work fine. Of course you can do some type of joint if you want to, it's just not needed for utility value.

Very nice and very impressive. Thank you for sharing all the pictures and great storage ideas. I'm in the process of trying to set up a new shop and also storage system.
We moved into a new house, which is bigger, but I have less shop space and storage.
I'm working on correcting both.
Again very impressive and nice work.

thanks, Ed. that thread had a link to the drawers on Lee Valley where it says they are no longer available. I did find the Veritas drawer sides earlier, though.
FWIW, I did look at several of your photo series on flickr. for me, they display better here. the same picture seems to be bigger than it was on flickr. in both places, though, they are much appreciated.

The images at flickr were full size you just need to click on them and then you could have gone from that to larger sizes. All the images here have been sized to fit the requirements of the forum. Any way they are all gone now so it is done with.
