Well you beat me with the pics . Some days my fingers won’t grip and push the quick release so I use a wrench for extra push. You do disconnect it while it’s fully extended and in drill press mode? I slide everything to the right, tip up to drill press mode and disconnect or reconnect.

Thanks Larry - I havent tried the wrench method- next time I'll give that a try !

A little thread drift here, but I'm intrigued by your under-Shopsmith storage cabinet. Not like any I've seen. Would love more photos and details. Does it hang from the bench tubes or does it ride on its own casters? I like how you took advantage of the fact that the table doesn't need clearance to the left of the headstock and neither is foot space needed so you built that cabinet to the left of the headstock both wider and taller.

It does hang from the bench tubes, there are no castors. Here are some pictures from another thread. viewtopic.php?p=233708#p233708. You’ll have to scroll down to get to the pictures, I can’t get the link to jump to the right post.
If I remember correctly, when I first built it I didn’t have the lift assist and I could roll the Shopsmith over it and hook it up. When I added the lift assist I kind of butchered up the right end, modified it in place so to speak, and haven’t ever removed it since. It is still removable but there would be more to take apart.
