Since I had made a detailed and measured sketch of Nick's jointer outfeed table, there very well could be copyright considerations. My decision to destroy the sketch, based on my level of "discomfort" was of course my personal decision.

Perhaps Nick should make up plans for this accessory and sell them separately, or include the plans in a future "V" book.
That is commendable and a straight arrow approach. However, if I was to build one, having gotten the idea here on the forum that some of the members might buy one, I do not believe it would be a copyright violation.

You on the other hand measured his and had the ability to exactly replicate it. That might be a direct story in court.

I would almost guarantee that if the forum had held up a little longer, you would have been able to download detailed plans from there.

Now, about the plans that are available as downloads from the forum....I do believe that marketing them or product built by using them would be a violation of Nick's Intellectual Rights whether they are copyrighted or not.

When he posts those, he does not expect that you and I will go into business manufacturing them. Make one for our own use but not create them in quantity.

I compared my jointer and mine is made differently and is missing that ledge that the outfeed table rests on. Grr. :-) I think I'll come up with another idea and see what I can do with Sketchup. Hmm.
