Re: Anyone consider cutting bandsaw Table?

I moved the cast iron top and the metal knobs to my original bandsaw. Of course it clears now with the cast iron top. One is from the 90's and one is from the 80". My main units is now a Frankenstein's Monster, Knobs and Table from older unit.

Not sure why, I like the metal knobs better, Feel like if I drop them they would never break like the plastics ones may, (they feel incredibly strong though).

I have another issue where in order for my headstock to line up with BS, the tubes must be adjusted all the way to the right. I think, but I am not sure but the back way tube is high, therefore pushing the headstock toward the front. If I fix that then, maybe I could just use the tubes with the aluminum table and make the clearance.

I kind of like the idea of using the miter gauge as a fence on the bandsaw if I need it thus, making the cast iron more useful. (although heavy).

Sorry for the rambling.

tdorey,

Don't be sorry thinking you may be rambling it is sometimes a good way to get discussions going.

From your description some bench alignment may be in order.

The differences between the Cast Iron and Aluminum Tables give the user different options. The Cast Iron Table was designed to use the Miter not only to push stock through but as a Fence too. I have Miters specifically for both my Aluminum Table Bandsaw and a Miter without the Safety Grip for my Greenie Cast Iron Bandsaw. For that one I also have a Miter Gauge Extension board to make the fence face larger & longer when desired.
