Yeah, but the lack of spaces screws up the page layout! On my handheld computer and my old tablet PC, where the resolution isn't that great, your signature makes me have to scroll the screen side to side.

Plus, if you were going to give Mike a hard time about his typing errors, I couldn't help but give you a hard time about yours.

Just a little update. I was going to work on this project last weekend. The Verde Green paint came in (special order). and I am ready to get started but a couple of things came up that slowed me down. The weather turned wet and cold. The sand blaster I have access to must be rolled outside to work and I couldn't do that due to the weather.

Then My youngest decided that the worst snow storm in March in decades (for Dallas) of over 6" of snow was the time to grace us with our first grand daughter. 8lbs and 4.5 oz. Mom and daughter are both fine.

Anyway, I hope to get back to this shortly.

Citrusstrip does not care what the weather outside is like!:D Also, it stops at the paint/metal boundary.

Latest Update on 320395...
After weekend company left Sunday (they came in to town to see the newest family member:)) my bride and I went in to the shop with all, correction most... of the parts of the "new" greenie and proceeded to tear it down and start the cleaning process.
She did the bead blasting while I tore down the various bits-n-pieces.

The quill bearing is OK, it needs some grease but is not rough at all.... But, I have a new one and am replacing it. In my opinion not replacing it when it is already this far apart, added to the fact that I am gifting it to someone who I don't want to have issues with it and it just makes sense.

The gilmer drive is in good shape (Thank you mickeyd for your post on the gilmer drive) but those bearings were dry and one of them is very rough. More bearings replaced...

I also saw a spread at the pork chop. I understand billmayo has a "fix" for this issue and have pm'd him on that.

After the headstock was empty I passed the casting to my bride who put it with every thing else that needed blasting. and started on the bench and way tubes. I spun them in the lathe (We were working at the shop at work) and used scotch bright on them. It took about an hour to get them all cleaned up. Boy they look nice when they are all shiny.

I wire brushed (wheel) the outside of the quill to clean it up and belt sanded a few burs that had been raised by miss placed set screws over the years.

Now all the castings and sheet metal have been blasted, in the process we found one of the legs was almost rusted through on one foot so I am using a spare I had around and replacing it. The verde green paint is here and I am inventorying the system for all the bits-n-pieces that are missing/need to be replaced like all the pan and belt housing screws, the spacer that goes between the carriage and the headstock, one of the spiral locks where the gilmer drive sits in the headstock casting... There are two aren't there?

I have found/acquired the missing lathe cup and tool-rest arm and rest.

I am about ready to start priming and painting, before I do I'll take some pictures.

Actually...
Since we were married she has been my number one helper. We make a good team and enjoy working on projects together. And no I didn't force her to help me. I could probably force her to do something if I had to but the cost would defiantly not be worth it in the long run.

Some things are better done on my own but we work together on most things, sometimes her contribution is in the planning stage (I want it this way/Can you do that instead...), Sometimes the help comes in support rolls as in calling me because dinner (which did not prepare itself) is ready, and some times like this it is a more direct help with a specific roll/job but over all we make a pretty good team.

It sounds to me like the two of you need to find still another Shopsmith to renovate. You could paint hers pink and you'd have his and hers.

Why is it that filing is not considered???? It is much less traumatic to the object being 'fixed'!
