So maybe that's why there are no details?

So, Is it correct to conclude that Greenies and Early Goldies(Gilmer) do NOT have the 'hooked' key and bored shaft? I am not clear what was done in 1994(gilmer to poly-v?).

The receipt I posted was when the original owner sent the headstock out in 1994 to replace the idler shaft and its related parts( this was still a Gilmer Drive system at this time ). I did the upgrade( Poly V ) to this headstock in early 2008. I purchased the machine in 1994 after the original owner passed away. The machine sat for 14 years in an unheated masonry building until I was able to get my first shop to use it in (2007)

Makes sense now! In 1994 there was no reason to stock Gilmer version idler SHAFTS/KEYS.

Guess we will have to wait for Eastern Gray to tear down his 3/4hp Gilmer Goldie when going Power Pro - Unless Bill wants to jump in with the 'straight' scoop!:rolleyes:

My shaft has a cross-wise key seat ground into it that I made the bent key hook into. Then when I slid the idler pulley on, it bottoms out at the retaining ring next to the bearing. Then I slid the clip over the shaft until it snaps into the groove where you had shown (nested down between the fins of the idler pulley. Then the control pulley indexes on the key, slides down, and shazam - done. Great pictures. If I did not get so greasy, I'd have taken my camera and made some photos. I always forget that part.

My greenie has the hooked key and recessed key way. My father-in-law was the original owner, and I'm 99% sure he did not replace the idler shaft.

I powered it up this AM, and no go

- had to hand adjust down to slow speed - and VOILA - it's alive - and running smoothly.
