the piece on the back of the bandsaw is a shopsmith part. it for the belt guard/cover when the saw is used on it's own stand.

After a slight cold weather and storm delay I got back to cleaning up the band saw

Not easy to get in all the cracks and corners inside the bandsaw but now almost all the rust and superfine saw dust is gone. And a good soak in Evapo-rust cleaned up the table really nicely. I even gave the old guide bearings and blocks a quick clean. The bearings definately look old, but I'm not sure if those would be cool blocks or not, I don't know what the physical differences are to be able to tell.

I tried cleaning the tires while still attached but that really didnt work, the old blade had rusted and left more rust embedded in the tire and gunk stuck to them. So I removed them and found them stuck on with contact cement but a nice long soak in Evapo-rust disintegrated the rust and just a little more scrubbing got them nice and clean, some bits are a little rough and the old saw blade has left a slight dent/groove in the tires, you can see it a little as a shadow in the pic above. I'm hoping I can remount the tires and use them.
Looking good

Overall it looks to be in fair shape. Mine, which came with my '55 when I bought it last year, was similar. I cleaned EVERYTHING and put it all back together after greasing the upper bearings, picking metal bits out of the tires and figuring out how to realign everything. It's a bit noisy with the old bearings, etc., but it works pretty good. If I ever get some spare time I'm going to upgrade the front cover by adding a homemade tensioner window, and eventually upgrade the bearings as well. But for now, I'm making sawdust!!

Put the whole thing back together today, noticed a few missing bolts and still trying to figure out if those blocks are the cool blocks and salvagable.
Here's the whole shipping list.
