Is this 520?

A couple more questions...

- When was the 520 first introduced?
- Dusty mentioned it may be a "C" headstock. Is that a good thing? How can I tell for sure?
- If I had the serial number would that provide any additional information that would be useful in determining older vs. newer parts?

There are some differences between headstock models (A, B, C) but, in my opinion, the differences do not make one better that the other. They are all form, fit, function interchangeable. However, when ordering some parts you need to know which model you are having.

In this particular case, the owner states that what is pictured was purchased new. In the picture, it can be seen that the unit has 520 rails and that is why I said it had a "C" headstock. The 510 and earlier units did not have the 520 rails (duh).

The machine appears to be 'anniversary' (2003 + or -) vintage. You can see the serial number at the bottom of the warning label on the belt cover of the headstock. Additionally, you can see the warning label attached to the base (right side of bench). The table is also the latest version, smooth around the throat plate and ribbed outside of the miter slots. What I cannot tell is if it has the newer style 520 front fence rails with the magnets for the direct read fence. The price seems fair, though there is no harm is offering a lower price......all they can do is say no or counter. Good luck.

Would not the sn actually be a mfg date on this vintage?

FWIW Amount of use and maintenance are more relevant than 'age'. Sorta like us!:D
