Berry,
For a good, basic explanation take a look at:

In my opinion the term "Spam" came from here:

Quite right. Although the fine folks at Hormel would prefer it if you called it "spam".

jcraigie wrote:Why do people have to be told to stand for the passing of the flag during a parade? Especially Memorial Day

My kids have been taught flag etiquette and respect from day one and it truely "burns my britches" when people continue to sit, leave their hats on, continue on as if nothing is going on, yet the old vets will struggle to get out of their wheelchair to stand for the flag:mad: GRRRRRR
I was taught flag etiquette in school in the 1950's and 1960's. When we have local parades or when the colors are presented in church or school, you'll see mostly vets who know what to do. Others irritate me so much and I want to sit them down and tell them, but my tongue is sore. I'll continue setting a good example.

Hi Berry,
The spammer is someone who posts just to put a link to a spam website that they are advertising for. The username is created and the only posts they put into a forum are for their product. You see it often unfortunately. Luckily though, our forum moderator is now removing the posts as quick as they can which helps the spammer to go away and not want to return as his propoganda for a website is removed and most forum members never see the post.
What you should know is if one is identified, or you see a post by one and you don't want to see it any longer, you can click on thier user name and add them to your ignore list. Any post by them will then be ignored meaning it is hidden and you can not see it. The rest of the posts, in a thread will still be there so if a spammer takes over this thread, his post is hidden and you can read the rest.
Hope that helps.
As for standing for a flag, I understand completely. It urks me with the flag ettiquete, didn't spell that right, with people not standing or not taking their hat off. Drives me nuts with the hat. Too many kids think the hat is their style and they can't remove it for anything. I saw 2 youth with hats on in church this Sunday. I think that urks me more

Didn't get the garden planted over the weekend (too much rain). I'm thinking of planting rice instead.

Apparently etiquette has changed!
Used to be never in the rain.
Used to be do not display after dark Later changed to 'or illuminated'.
Used to be never discard - burn it(respectfully).
FWIW those ignoramuses would not 'learn' from your good example. They would merely 'think' you were some strange 'idiot'.
The villages have become too large and the 'mind your own business' mentality too widespread.
On a side note re irksome 'behavior': Those folks with a shopping cart full that seem to think the express lanes were reserved for them.
On one occasion when a 'man' and what appeared to be his mother, were struggling to get all their stuff on the scales after ringing them up. I asked them if they were unable to read or unable to count(the sign clearly said 15 items or less).
The 'mother' looked at me with a sheepish look and the 'son' told me to "mind my own business".
At that point I asked him if he was familiar with the 'it takes a village' book. He replied that he was not. I then informed that apparently he was raised in the wrong village, turned and walked off.
If these places would enforce their 'limit'(automatically cancel out a sale exceeding the limit thus omitting any employee from the enforcement role), these clowns would cease taking advantage of the rest of us.
End Rant!

I drove through the damage in Joplin yesterday. The pictures do not do justice to the destruction. I would describe it if it was possible. It is not. I have seen several areas of tornado damage in the past. None can compare to this.
My thoughts have been highly unstructured since I left there.

JPG, that is an awesome idea. Once you hit 13 items in a 12 item lane, the sale cancels. But you need to make sure everyone notices the moron in line so have a loud buzzer that goes off and a red flashing light that spins a banner that says Too many items, Customer could not count.
That would be entertaining. Of course the cashier would just put the order through in multiple orders instead. ah, good thought anyway.
I too have yet to get my garden planted. Actually, all I wanted to do this last weekend was put my dog fence in but it rained every night, more like poured and the ground was so soaked that it would have just been a muddy mess to attempt.

Try real hard to not let the "small things" get under your skin.
Being bothered by someone with 16 items in the express checkout lane is a small thing.
Being bothered by what someone wears in church is a small thing.
Being bothered by who fails to stand during the national anthem is a small thing.
When I find myself doing those things that I was taught not to do and never used to do - now that is NOT a small thing.
