I like the blade guard feature of the aluminum tube - The new hold down has a similar guard feature without the relatively high cover raising/lowering interference of the alum.. tube.

I've managed to move the tubing out far enough to avoid cover blocking interference. Still fooling with it an learning;) This interference may not be an issue at all, after getting more acquainted with the saw. Since the new hold down is available, it seems attractive - not necessarily needed.

These scroll saw updates are, to me, kinda like the changes from a 510 to a 520. Attractive - but needed? I still operate my 510 with absolutely no complaints.

Found out the old dust blower works real good. The only time it won't work is when sawing a small piece that doesn't extent to the right front of the blade.

Not much help if the 'blocks' are missing.

I can loan you a set if they are too far in your future until they arrive.

That would include the 'fixture' if needed.

Thanks JPG40504.....Without these two pics I was not 100% sure how to change the blades. I had a general idea, but it is quite a bit different than the Porter Cable I have. Wish I had an extra set of mounting blocks other than the ones the blades are mounted in, but will have to buy a quick disconnect I think. Not sure if I want the whole upgrade kit w/plastic cover kit, or just the blade change blocks. Guess I also need a users manual since the gentlemen I bought mine from did not have one.

Dusty, if you were to do it again, would you still opt for just the blade block upgrade or go for the whole upgrade kit? Any input from anyone else who has upgraded their scroll saw would be appreciated. Thanks

I've upgraded my machine by way of the full kit. At the time the cost difference was about $10 which I though was not much of a deal. I like the new foot better so that was enough payback for me. The plastic hood works, would not have gone for that as incentive but now that is on I'm happy. I do like the rear tension lever seems to be handy but again it alone would not be incentive enough.

I have to say I have not checked the prices of late but if they are with in $15 or that would still be the way I'd go.

If I was upgrading today, I would probably go for the whole thing But I will not upgrade just to get the plastic hood. I don't see a lot of value in being able to see what is under the hood when I am cutting. When I am working under the hood, it is open and out of the way.

Does anyone know if the manual for scroll saw 555272 is still available? I got a saw today along with the upgrade kit still in the wrapper from CL. Previous posts stated they where short on the manual at the mother ship.

looks like a printed manual for the new teal colored scroll saw is available. As I remember, there is no change of mechanics from the older to the newer saw.

Called SS yesterday and they have 6 manuals left in stock for the 555272 model. I got one for $9.99.
