I am currently working on a solution for reducing the output speed, but primarily for horizontal boring. I really don't like the idea of using the SS speed reducer and pushing it back and forth on the way bars. What I am trying instead is using a small 1/3 HP motor belted to the jointer shaft. So far, so good. It will also run the bandsaw at a reduced speed. Right now I am at about 450 rpm with a 1-1/2 inch motor pulley and a 3-1/2 inch shaft pulley. With a 7 inch shaft pulley, this would be about 250 rpm.

I will probably start a new Thread when I get more details worked up. I do like the idea presented here for just the bandsaw, though.

Not to highjack this thread, but just one quick question. With the 8 inch pulley, will the coupling still have clearance on the upper aux shaft? When I measured, it seemed awfully close. I don't want to spend $25 for something that won't work for the bandsaw.

Thanks for the comment holsgo, but I have not done it, ie, used my setup to slow down the band saw, I was only using the lathe mode. I just set it up to check clearances:
My belt/pulley just clears the coupling

But, the coupling is an inch too short if your version has same dimensions as mine:

This could be handled by using something like a 1/2" router bit chuck, a short 5/8" shaft with a 1/2" section, and move the 5/8" drive hub left. OR, mount the motor so the motor support is not between the haedstock and the band saw!:D
My dc motor clears the body of the band saw ok.

BTW, twoblocked, please remind me what the $25 was for.

I was referring to your inventiveness, which I have copied a thing or two off of.
BTW. Making a cross slide for a South Bend milling attachment. Cutting 3/8 and 1/2 carbon steel on the bandsaw. Works fine. Have to have patience as you feed in at a steady rate but the speed is about right. Now, heat is an issue and coolant would be mandatory for much thicker pieces.
