Good reminder, Dan!

Here's an image with my model 500 fence (modified to use on a 510-thus the extra board) on a 500 main table. The orientation is as you described.

Anyway, it should give the OP a look at the orientation of the fence. Of course, the headstock needs to be tilted up into drillpress position and the table tilted.

Thanks to OldC6 everything is now crystal clear about how the fence works. Its a beautiful piece of work and I am much apreciative of your help. And I wanted to see how my new "signature" works: Lets see, my wife and I are both eating pumpkin pie for supper! And its a complete meal in itself: eggs for protein, milk, pumpkin for vegetables, and flour for the crust is the carbohydrates! Yes, its all there!

danscot wrote:I've seen previous threads on this forum become protracted with confusion over orientation. Because the machine is multi-function you can end up standing at various locations depending on the task in hand. Correct me if I'm wrong JPG, but I recollect you advocating standardising on one reference viewpoint and relating all location descriptions to that.

AIUI the front of the machine is when standing in the table saw operating position with speed control dial visible]

I'm thinking mountain4don is standing at the operating position of the SS in drill press mode & maybe picturing the fence mounted front to rear in that position, ie, at 90 degrees to the front & rear of the table fence mounting referenced by JPG. That would explain the idea of long stock colliding with the way tubes.

The good news for mountain4don is that no stock will hit the way tubes :)

Yep!:) That's the way I meant it!;) Some SPT's also mount to the right end.

I found these 2 items lately that I believe was a part a Shopsmith routing fence. There is a suction hole in each side with an elboe on one.

Please contact me if anyone is interested in these as this is all I have of whatever package they came from.
