I think that allen screw is a 5/16"-18x3/8" Black Oxide Alloy Steel Knurled Cup Point Socket Set Screw? From Dusty's listing, item #45.

Also make sure your 5/32's allen wrench isn't rounded. Ya might have to grind it a little to renew it.

Since that set screw has obviously not been touched since it left Dayton(or nearby), there should be nothing wrong with it.
Remember why you are attempting to remove it. I assume you want to make the quill so it moves/returns easily and smoothly. Getting that done will require removing the quill from the headstock. That screw is what prevents the quill form advancing too far(off the end of the quill gears rack). The screw also prevents the quill from rotating in the headstock bore since the half dog point rides in a groove(keyway) in the top of the quill.
If you have not already watched Nick remove the quill etc., do so before starting to remove the quill.

Thanks JPG. I have watched that and numerous other videos online to learn more. I have watched some of Doug Reids and Nick Englers's videos. Is Nick still around?

Thanks Dusty and to give everyone an update I have gotten it loose enough to where I can now get it out. Dusty the link to Fastenal you gave does not show the screw. Is it correct? The part number for the part you will need is 501634. It is a half dog flat.

Thanks Dusty and yes it is working now. I wish Shopsmith had a reference manual to all of their screw sizes for all of their parts. Is there any kind of Service/Repair Manuals that you know of ? Something like when they had Stores and Authorized Repair Shops or Dealers or something ?
I did find the screw at a local place online (Fastenal) thanks for the idea and link to the size of it. I just need to go and see if they have it on hand now.

Fastenol has a website where you can order online. I have never used it however.
To answer your question: No, Shopsmith has never, to my knowledge, offered a parts list description that was complete enough to allow one to order parts from other than Shopsmith (they provide a Shopsmith PN but no detailed description).
The descriptions that I included in the chart that I put in this thread were developed by using what Shopsmith did provide and then by looking at my own machines.
The information can not be guaranteed. Shopsmith has provided no input other than what is contained in their various parts lists.
The Shopsmith Help Kit provides only a small portion of parts (set screws) actually used.
