Fred, how was the checking/cracking on the ends?
Hopefully, you were able to save most of the blank.
Old story, when I lived in Lawton OK, had a friend in
Medicine Park, just north of Ft Sill. She (and her dim-
witted) husband were using walnut as firewood. Needless
to say, I STOLE all their "firewood." Unfortunately, it got
burned up in a garage (clothes dryer) fire, which she caused.
But, my 10ER was written off by the insurance company,
and I collected $1500.00 (about half the then current price
of a replacement Shopsmith.) And, I kept the smoke-damaged
ER. (How much is smoke going to damage an ER? Not $1500
worth!) It needed a re-paint, and a new belt. (It needed a
repaint, BEFORE I got it, for $140.00.) Belt was $15.00 or so.
