For the jointer to make straight edges, the knives must be adjusted for the same depth of cut regardless of their relationship to the outfeed table. I set my knives a couple thousandths above the height of the outfeed table

Me too - allows them to wear a bit before readjusting etc. 0.002? For me, just a bit high and all the same.

Another question. I disassembled the jointer and found the nut that holds the infeed table to the out-feed table is a regular nut not a Marsden or Nylok. I will replace it for sure. The big question is there were no springs in the stack. As you can see in the attached photo, I have several springs that may or may not be acceptable. Does anyone have one that can tell me the approximate length and diameter??

I suggest going to the other ship.

IIRC(been a long time) they resemble lock washers(single turn) and quite stiff.

The mother ship says they are a split washer .382 I.D, .688 O.D. I am going to use regular 3/8" lock washers.

Do not fergit the three flat washers.

Put it back together with the split washers, flat washers and a new Nylok nut and the cutters no longer have a problem hitting the in-feed table when you adjust past "0". I have no idea what the problem was but it seems to be corrected. I did sharpen the knives using my Tormek and they cut super.

Good job!
One question, I have un-split but slightly wavy washers as springs in my '84 jointer. Are they wrong? They work fine, regardless. I assume they just found split washers cheaper and just as effective since they are between the three flat washers.

I have the wavy washers in mine and they are factory components
