Keep in mind that at slow speeds, the motor(hence the 'fan') runs the same rpm as when the shafts/belts are running at faster speeds. So same air flow, but heat created increases with speed/load(as seen by motor).
I am not referring to the reeves drive M5/V, not the PP.

Here is what I think and I don't have any facts to prove it. I reentered the hot headstock with quotations symbols and it brought up about two hundred hits. I found what I was looking for and what several people have said here with this posting. That heat is a inherent characteristic of SS headstock and especially more so with the Power pro. Now that being said, I'm not putting down Shopsmith because it has been good to me both monetarily and my woodworking. The forums are always a source of immense information in regards to finding solutions to most of my problems with my SS. Here it is, I believe Shopsmith is putting different bearings in the newer Power pros because I have a 2014 I bought and put together and it does not heat up with running at ten thousand rpms for five minutes or so. So that is my story and thanks for everyone's input. It also proves that heat build up in the SS headstock is a hot topic

I gotta say this!
I consider it a minor miracle that SS/NOVA succeeded in even cramming all that PP stuff into the existing headstock!
I also applaud the effort it took to make it adaptable to even the "A" headstock.
So they had to make tradeoff decisions regarding ventilation(cooling). Although heat buildup is a problem, I for one consider the backwards compatibility a far loftier objective.
Time will tell.

I see mentioned from time to time A, B and C headstocks. I imagine the first greenies were A. How about B and C? What are the differences? Thx for the education.

"A" Sand cast aluminum = thicker walls = heavier, courser details/flash, more belt cover screws and no access hole.
"B" Die cast aluminum = finer detail, thinner walls, fewer screws and added access hole.
"C" Moved the switch hole and made it rectangular and made the access hole larger.
All the bores are the same.
