It's 1 inch wide. Am I missing a fitting or a part somewhere?
There is a floating center and nut on EBay, comes with a drive spur and a live center.

A bit 'pricey'. They are not that scarce. The live center is brand ?. The spur center looks correct vintage.
I certainly agree. The same seller has the tail stock casting without the eccentric on eBay for $30. Go figure. I would not pay more than $15 or $20 for the complete tail stock.

Realized I needed to derustify and knock the center out of the tailstock piece in order to get the tapered chuck in there.

Thanks again, gentlemen. The photos were helpful. Im using th original non-live center and that center holder piece of the tailstock attachment (to be technical) wasn't budging. I'm in business now!

I’m in the process of revitalizing my father’s old 10er.
I remember him turning spindles on it as a kid.
But when reassembling the machine, it is missing the tailstock insert.
From reading these forums I understand that it is a Morse 2 taper insert.
See the attached pictures which I copied from this morning were very helpful.
Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement tailstock insert for a 10er?

try MKCtools,
http://www.mkctools.com/10erparts.htm
or HogWinslow.
https://sites.google.com/site/hogwinslowwoodworking/
They both have parts not listed on their web pages so may be able to help you.

Oh, and MKCtools has the specs so you can make one or have one made. I knew I had seen it somewhere, just took some time to find it.

More simply, just order a new one from The mother ship. The current one fits.

But the Mother Ship doesn't stock 10ER specific parts.

BUT the tailstock has not changed since then.
So that pix misled me. He needs that thing circled in the pix, not the tailstock center that inserts into it.
I think a simple way to get one is to find one on a 10
ER tailstock from E-Bay.
