Another fairly long day in the shop. I finished the pedestal part of the sink and got the ebony accent rings and zebrawood base. The segmented ebony ring will go on the bottom of the base at the floor. I’m hoping the ebony will stand up better to the mopping etc.

Turned out great (no pun intended).

The ebony rings and the zebrawood base are ready for turning. I mounted both and got the base rounded out.

Continuing with the turning on the ring and base today. Very slow going but progressing. The base has raised an interesting issue with the Power Pro. At 250 rpm it makes a pretty good racket. Once I got it balanced I was able to turn it up to 400 and the noise stopped. That DVR motor does not like running slow with a load on it.

The pedestal is done as far as turning and pending approval. I think I will end up reshaping the main shaft and the upper ebony ring. It turned out a little clunky and I will probably be instructed to smooth the lines. But overall it is coming along. I will have to carve an exit hole for the drain pipe but that’s about it. Ebony is very cool stuff. It polishes like metal but turns like butter. Very long smooth shavings.

This project is finally coming to a foreseeable end. I got the bathroom demo’d which included cutting and removing the old tile. The rough wiring and plumbing is done and the waterfall faucet installed. The dry wallers will be here Tues to do the walls and then it will get down to installing the marble floor and the pedestal sink. The drain is going to involve some creative plumbing but doable. While I am waiting for the dry wall I am making a zebrawood picture frame to match the pedestal for a painting that the wife found. It became involved when she wanted the grain on the zebrawood to be at the 45 degree bias so the mitered corners and the grain pattern would match.

Frame is nearing completion. Gluing in the wafers and then some sanding.
