The wobble blade that you say is the solution makes non flat bottom cuts that are nearly impossible to dial in within a 1/32. Plus you want to go less than a 1/4 and that is the lower limit of the blade. So I do not see how this is a solution.

The wobble blade pictured goes down to 3/16" a whole 1/16" undersized so for the 1/4" plywood it will work fine. Check the picture again.

When I ask the question I had forgotten the wobble could cut less then 1/4" but once I was reminded of the possibility I checked it out and low and behold a solution.

Now that is not a solution for everyone or every application, as you pointed out the dado will have some what of a cupped bottom but it is fine for my intended use.

BTW the blade can be set to ANY point between marks so if you dial it in you can get it as close as you feel necessary. I got this back in the mid 70' and was my only dado blade for a lot of years. I don't use it much anymore since I have expanded my collection of tools but I should never have forgotten about it.

Lotta work for a less than totally accurate result. Great idea, though. Needs some tweaking.

The wobble blade should do the trick - but I am wondering why no one mentioned the Cross-Cutter. I have one, but have not tried it yet. Shopsmith claims that one of the uses for the Cross-Cutter is to resolve exactly the issue you describe, namely plywood thinner than its nominal dimension.

You need to do two cuts. Wanted to do it in a single pass.

Wow a lot of work for not good results.

I've found that I set it to the dimension I think it should be, say 1/4" and make a test cut. If it too wide or too narrow you simply loose the nut and tweak it bigger or smaller as needed. I get it tuned in about two tries, sometimes 1 and some times 3, don't recall ever needing to do more then three to tune it but even at that it goes really fast since you don't have to take the blade off to make the adjustments, just loosen the nut, turn, tighten and test/retest.

Ah...got it. Thus the wobble dado. My experiences with that blade have been pretty good. I have used it a lot and I agree it is quite easy to adjust and makes a decent cut.
