If a good Jacobs chuck IS a lifetime investment, why the reluctance to purchase one used?

Dennis, the MC8K25 is a 1/2" chuck.

I can understand the desire to have parts that originally came with a specific Shopsmith when restoring them. I know I do. Do you know which version it is?

The Jacobs Multi-Craft Chucks were supplied in the late 1950’s until replaced by the Cushman Chuck extending into the 1980’s. Three Jacobs Multi-Craft Chucks were supplied during that time and only differ in how they are labeled. There is a fourth Multi-Craft Chuck but with a different shaped nose. I do not know if this version of the Jacobs Multi-Craft Chuck was ever supplied with Shopsmith tools. A Multi-Craft Chuck came with an early 1963 Mark 5 Goldie I restored and with both of my Mark 2's.

I'm looking for a tailstock and some other parts for a mark 2 but I've read I can use parts from the mark 5, I'm completely new to this, so any help would be great. I live in salem oregon if anyone around here knows of anyone selling parts.
I just bought the mark 2 to get into woodworking and I've always enjoyed using old machinery.

Hi Roy. Welcome! In addition to JPG's link, you will probably receive more views and therefore more help if you start a new thread with your question rather than tagging onto this one. Good luck!
