Assuming oem wire colors, a wire from relay terminal 2 connects to power switch terminal 2.
The capacitor wire connects to relay terminal 1.

The yellow motor wire connects to relay terminal 5 as well as to both power switch terminals 5.

The relay coil is across terminals 2 and 5.

Relay terminal 1 is the contact terminal that IIRC is normally closed to terminal 2. If my recollection IS correct resistance between 1 and2 should measure 0 ohms.

So your saying I should ignore the installation instructions that came with the relay and basically hook it up just like the old one was connected, right? Actually, the relay instructions may be illustrating the same hook-up that's in the Shopsmith anyway. It kind of makes sense as I don't really know which wire is the motor start winding lead anyway and it looks like these relays are very similar in their design. I'll do a little more poking with my VOM and then hook it up and see what happens.

Thanks.

Realize the MVII motor is reversible. The actual start winding wires are connected to the power switch terminals T9 and T5. The power switch connects them to terminals 2 And 5 on the switch.

I do not know what the mars relay instructions state.
