I was just thinking about him the other day that he hasn't been around for quite a while.

Well... to put the steel scale issue to rest SS got back to me and said that they will not send me another scale... I can buy them from SS and he wanted to sell them to me on the spot. I told him I'd have to think about it. Man.... I'm kind of sorry I asked. I dropped just over $6,000 last year on my purchase and they can't comp me a $30.00 Scale? Yes I probably threw it away in the packaging but a client willing to drop that much money is worth $30 bucks to keep them happy in my opinion. Now I have a bad taste in my mouth. I'm sure it will pass but still....

Sorry...I was really hoping they would come through on this. That is also why I pointed out my experience with the scales because they can be temperamental. In other words, you may not be missing out on much. A Mark 7 is a very expensive purchase so I am also surprised they didn't want to give a little here, especially on such a small item to keep a customer happy.

I agree with RF Guy. Although the scale is in place on my Mark Main Table in the pictures of my first post here, I really don't pay much attention to it when measuring the fence placement. A ruler or tape measure is much more accurate and easier to use. The magnetic table rail is simply a much easier place to keep it than it possibly getting damaged being elsewhere in the shop. The longer one is often getting knocked around and I feel lucky it hasn't gotten bent yet.

Seeing the difference in the part numbers from the Rip Scale Upgrade Kit and the current Front Main Table Rail did Shopsmith discontinue the Rip Scale as standard on a new Mark 7?

Thanks. Yeah, I was wondering the same thing. According to the following page from the Mark 7 Summary manual, these Rip Scale rulers should be an included accessory. However, with SS changing their product platform recently, e.g. offering a 520S and a Mark 4 does make me wonder if this was a cost reduction that isn't reflected in documentation yet or not.

Tom (Woodshop Nerdery) received at least one scale with his Mark 7 and I believe his was more recent than KCollins. So not discontinued IMO. Tom specifically said he did not, however, receive a long 5/32" hex key. (Both comments relating to his first Mark 7, I don't think Tom did another unpacking video when SS replaced it.)

According the the Magna publication "Product Eng Magazine article on M5 "Example of Eng Ingenuity"" from October 1954, the holes in the left hand base were there from the beginning as a holding place for our "Shopsmith Tool Box" and chuck key. They may also have used them to bolt the base to the bottom of the crate, but that sounds more serendipitous than planned, otherwise there would be similar holes on the right end. Scott

I think the ss tool kit/chuck key intent is ore serendipitous than the crating holes purpose.
