Has anyone purchased this hardware kit and built it to see if it does what he says it does? Would love to hear from anyone that did one way or the other.

Yes, I have. Just remember what you are buying is a "bag of bolts" and some plans. Yes, it does mount to the 500 (or 505/510/520) and doesn't sit on the floor. Yes, it can be adjusted to a varying height of the table but it has to be done manually, it doesn't follow the table up and down. And it will tip with the table but not for the whole range (I normally don't rip a mitered edge). And the plans don't call for slots to allow for the miter bar (which could be added if you wish). But since I only use it for ripping, I don't use the miter bar. For me it was a quick and inexpensive solution since I already had the wood needed (MDO).

Worth the price for me.
