I have seen plenty of trash at HF, including the $19 imitation Sawzall that didn't saw all, or even anything. On the other hand, I've bought a number of little things that, as someone else said, aren't mission critical.
There are a few fantastic bargains. You can get a fantastic Japanese dovetail saw for only $6.99. Buy it anywhere else, and pay 3 times that. And it's made in...wait for it...Japan!
I have plenty of air tools that are disposable for the price I paid for them.
By the way, the story of the father and son in management is virtually a replay of the events at U-Haul some years ago. Look it up.
