I traded a headstock that was on my first greenie for a 1 1/8 poly-v belt headstock. Thanks Bill Mayo! I also had him replace the bearings and whatnot on the 2nd greenie's quill, etc.

I finally got everything back last week, and today finished reassembly on the greenie headstock. I think I may not have grounded it well, because it trips the circuit breaker on a single-outlet dedicated 20A circuit (its for the A/C in my shop) within a few seconds of powering on.

EDIT:

Cord was 2.5' longer than the 1 1/8hp model headstock Bill Mayo had sent. Also, it was trying to start at high with the sanding disc on. My wiring was correct, as I looked at the wiring diagram before I did that part, I just guestimated the cord length. Also, it may have had something to do with trying to start at high with the sanding disc on. :)

Try starting on SLOW for the steel sanding disk. I had the same problem with a steel sanding disk I had been using to turn the quill by hand while rebuilding the headstock (it was handy). I forgot to remove the sanding disk first and tried to start the Shopsmith with speed set at FAST. I normally use a 6" aluminum face plate to hand rotate the quill. The 6" disk will always allow the headstock to start in the FAST position. One of the tests I quickly do after finishing a headstock.
