Curious how you dressed the face place.
1) The picture is with the 10ER socket in place.

2) The short of the process was using the miter gauge and a HSS lathe chisel(round nose). Made an "L" shaped bracket out of plywood has the lathe tool flat blade sitting on it, and is high enough to keep the handle above the table, the upper part of the "L" keeps the edge of the tool square and is away from the miter gauge enough to clear the handle from the miter gauge. Then make a pass or two and reset to take a bit more off until you are done.

This worked because the face plate is AL, would not do so good with the CI version but then maybe that is already been machined???

I don't know how close this can get but I was not thinking of turning pens with it but rather being able to use a buffer or maybe use it to assemble pens... other light duty uses. If it works out to be in the .005"-.006" range it would maybe work of pens??
