I considered that since I have a set of Shopsmith casters I'm not using. Based on looking a lots of casters I'm guessing that the Shopsmith casters would not support the weight. The wheels are to small for me and would need to be upgraded. Even if they support the weight I don't see any way to mount them where the mounting system would hold up.

There is a lot of stress on the mount when rolling across cracks, chips, extension cords etc. For example, anyway I have come up with to use stem mounted casters in anything heavy (150lb) will shortly begin to work loose. Hitting something or running over a bump compresses the surrounding wood and loosens the mount. If I used oak or maple this might not be nearly as much of a problem but would greatly increase the cost.

I want this to be as inexpensive as possible to the point that I would not have much of a problem salvaging the hardware and tossing it if I don't like the results.

I made an "L" metal bracket shown below to mount the Shopsmith Mark V retractable casters on an 10ER. The 2" casters have a 90 pds limit per caster. I have 3" stem casters available that have a 180 pd limit per caster that fits in the caster assembly.

I installed these casters:

with these draw latches.

It rolls great. It went right over everything I tried it with. The casters to flip is relatively easy. I'm not real pleased with the draw latches but they do work.

I've been considering this option. I bought the Shopsmith casters with the intent of modifying them to fit a Shopsmith power station.

Not sure what you intended to 'modify', but you will need 9/16" spacers and longer screws.

I reversed the cam shafts on mine so the foot pedals are accessed from the outside.

I like that idea. I'm going to build one that has locking casters and legs that can extend to different lengths so it can be an out feed, or an assembly table to work standing or sitting. My motorcycle jack will be the lift source.

A screw(acme thread) and handwheel would also work!
