I admit my post was assuming of this. I admit to 'uninformed' conclusions as well.

I may be assuming too much.

It may very well be that all things are using the same parameters. Perhaps speed range alters the assumed parameters.

In any event it does monitor speed and torque demands by the load.

I assume the lathe catch reaction is the result of increased torque load(rapid speed deceleration).

I think the bandsaw has a 'problem' due to it's low torque load. I think the program tries to sense when less power is 'adequate' by gradually decreasing speed until it detects a change. Then it bumps the speed to get back. With a low torque situation, the detection will be slow and the bump excessive.

As you said, we really do not 'know' and all this is educated(hopefully) guessing.

I fear we be assuming that interrogating the library of speed settings indexed by SPT also informs the control program of that 'detail'.

As Ed mentioned, if one merely sets the speed manually with or without manually bumping it faster/slower, the program is ignorant of what is being driven and can only control the detected speed.

I am sure that 300# + log is not in the programs library, yet it appears to handle it adequately(after being given a startup assist). That torque load varied per revolution due to water in one side of the tree.

I think it does remarkably well considering the great load characteristics of various SPTs. Too many are extolling it's virtues. Only a few(that we know of) have had 'issues'. Backlash seems to be a common denominator.
