Now get busy on the front extension!!!

Just kidding, really, but that was the first thought that I had when you posted this.

The length of the post doesn't need to change because the bottom support moves up and down with the table.

As I am sitting here typing, your solution for the back would interfere with the table raising wheel if you tried to repeat on the front. But the attachment part would work for the front. Then 2 or 3 L shaped pieces of wood that could be screwed on underneath, with the short part of the L going up to the bottom of the table, and the long part going under the extension. It could only go out 8-10 inches, but 8-10 inches added crosscut would REALLY add to the capabilities.

Or just add one of the SS support legs. Since you're working from the front, the height changes wouldn't be as onerous as in the back.

With your table on the back, and an extension on the front, we would have some really great added capabilities.

Dusty, you have done a well thought out, well planned, and well executed answer to a problem we have all thought about. If they had a Nobel Prize for Woodworking, I'd nominate you!;)

Hawk

PS I expect to see the front extension posted next week!:D

hawk,

You might be kidding and then again you might be serious. However, I have thought about that and I just might already have a built in solution, especially if all that is needed is 6"-8" additional infeed table length.

Well, I THOUGHT I was kidding. Can you go into more detail? I've got these kitchen cabinets, and the base sides and bottoms are 24" wide. Sides will be 30" tall Being able to square those and cut to uniform length on the SS would save time and LOTS of hassle.

Since they are 90 degree cuts, I can use my rollers to catch the back, but being able to increase the crosscut width to 24", I need front support for the crosscut sled. A roller in front just doesn't work correctly, especially on my uneven basement floor. Having it for bevel cuts is a major plus, but not necessary right now.

Thanks, Hawk

ETA: Probably have to do the same thing for the extension table as well, to properly support the sled, or else clamp a 2x4 to it at the right height.

Hawk,

Let me start this post by transferring your attention to a New Thread - Infeed Tables, Do You Ever Need Them?

That's Easy. Just Exit, Stage Right.

Then again, maybe I should remind you that Nick is doing the next Sawdust Session with presentations that relate. I'm really looking forward to seeing/hearing what he has on the subject of a Tilting, Adjustable Outfeed Table.

That is going to be interesting; I think that he may have learned a thing or two from you. It is good of you to post your efforts in that area!:D
