Ed, if the skunks have a favorite place by you, get some moth balls and spread them around. Where I stored my boat in the winter, last one in, they threw moth balls on the floor, kept the coons, possums, and the mice out.

To windy to paint but a nice day for cutting tubes. I decided on cutting off 16" which will make it a 2/3 length shopsmith.
Since I had the time I thought I do at least a little documentation of how I did the tube cutting.
I have some saw horses that hold round objects, good for working on the shopsmith tubes. For cutting, with a little help from some clamps they worked well.
I wrapped some tape down about 16" on the tube after picking which end was "better".

Once it is marked you have only the one spot to reference off of.

I'd rather have a line but if it isn't square well that is worse then no line at all. Since I have a stop collar that is tubing size it is pretty easy to get it to align to the pencil point and when snugged up it is automatically square.

Now it is simple to draw the line all the way around the tube.

Add the clamps and I'm ready to cut. I went with my portable bandsaw.
Anyone care to guess how long it takes to cut a tube?

Now that I have 4 16" tubes what do I do with them? Off hand I don't see where I could use them unless perhaps to make some sort of lathe extension but I don't really see that happening............

I used my 18" cut offs to make a dedicated drill press.

I just realized you were referring to the 'bench' tubes on the drill press.
