This quote is taken directly off his website's homepage, "Have you heard? Shopsmith is no longer servicing conventional headstocks and discontinued SPTs (Power Stations, Jigsaws, etc.) They are still doing factory repairs on power pro headstocks and in-production SPT’s. This will not have any effect on availability of repair parts whatsoever. Parts will still be made available and kept in inventory."

Interestingly, the link for Shopsmith Factory Repair Service is dead.

Yet another unique thing about SS that has been tossed aside. :(

Let's finish this statement from James:

“Have you heard? This will not have any effect on availability of repair parts whatsoever. Parts will still be made available and kept in inventory.

The Shopsmith Repair/Woodworking Academy, will service the new Power Pro headstocks and will continue to service the conventional headstocks and all accessories like the Belt Sander, Jointer and Planer. Although for some of the discontinued machines parts may not be available. Please call me first to see if we can still get parts for your machine, or if you have any questions.
Thanks,
James
That last statement is very disturbing to me. This company seems to be in a downward spiral. I hope they recover for all of our sakes.

The question is how much of this is a disclaimer for machines that already have very little if any parts support. Someone with no knowledge of Shopsmith's may think that all past machines are supported and we all know that is not the case. Machines that currently have little or no parts support that I can think of include the 10 E/ER, MK II, Jigsaw, grey scroll saw and Joint-Matic.

That is fair, but, to me, it just seems that the company is going in a different direction. Since they are not very forthcoming with information, and given the latest support issues (we have all witnessed) I just wonder what is in store.

Not trying to be negative, just realistic. :)

This is true but at the same time James' website is a third party repair service. How much info has he been told that we have not? With the turn over of personnel, did SS reach out to the people who did repairs for them in the past for help? I do find it interesting and encouraging that SS still sells the 520 and 510 models.

If the company is in trouble would not be a surprise. All one can do is hope that they get it figured out. Having just upgraded to the power pro this is especially worrisome. All one can do is wait and see.

Yes, James is a repair facility and has been there for quite some time.

I think he is just astute. What better way to solicit "Shopsmith Repair" business. He has also set himself up as a possible source for parts.

I haven't been back for a while because I have had other things to do, but I did finally get around to breaking down the Shopsmith again and sort of breadboarding the electronics so that I could hook them up, power them up, and try to see what behaves how.

The result of that is a video I've posted at https://youtu.be/cjoE6mTAWpA.

I'm afraid my improvisatory narration is a bit confusing, but at least you can see what the voltage checker does and when it does it, power off and power on, over the various bits and pieces and harnesses. Fact is I just plain misspoke at one point. Oops! Sorry.

My next step is to box up the control panel, write a cover letter, and send it off to Shopsmith in Dayton. With any luck they will send it out to be checked, reset, fixed or replaced as needed and get it back to me.
