Oh and good morning(crispy ain't it?).
Thanks. Sounds like you have in mind a captive platform so it would always be at this fixed height right? I was envisioning more of a ramp kind of system. The problem that I have is the Mark V is near perfect height for me for TS, jointing, planing, BS, etc. It is only if I get to a point of doing a lot of woodturning, that I would want it taller. On the fence with it because I am just starting out at woodturning still. Since I need to go back and forth, a variable lift would be nice but way out of budget.

Yeah, my shop is just getting up to temp now, so I best be heading out there...it sucks to live in a desert and STILL have to heat my shop up in winter.

I thought the original post was to decrease the height of the SS not raise it.

Yes, the OP asked to lower it. I asked specifically to raise it, but just for lathe operations...so wondering about solutions for either. I would need a 4-5" lift of my Mark V to get the chuck at the right height for woodturning.

Instead of raising your Shopsmith for turning how about lowering yourself? Can you sit while turning on a stool or chair? That would be much cheaper than trying to raise your Shopsmith for Lathe Work while still being able to lower it back for other operations.

Thanks Russ, you are right. Yeah, I thought about it and it probably is a good option to go with for my specific case. I primarily got thinking about different legs as a means to stabilize the Shopsmith with more weight and lower CG to aid woodturning (for larger bowls). Hence thinking about heavier legs or weight ballast. I think a chair would be too low, but a stool might work. Going to try this next time I switch to woodturning mode. This probably is the best solution (for me) because the height is near perfect for everything else and I can't dedicate space to another Shopsmith in my shop to dedicate it to one function over another.

Anyway, sorry for the detour...the OP of this thread is looking to go the other direction and lower his Shopsmith.

OP here. Maybe I just need some Elton John shoes. Maybe with the Shopsmith logo?
