IF the conical disk IS 4 degrees as stated just about everywhere in ss literature, then a square should be unnecessary! All that should be required is to set the table to 4 degrees!

Unfortunately as several have discovered, the disk is closer to 3 degrees. It is slightly greater than 3 degrees, so a square IS necessary.

Normal double checking would require a reference to the vernier scale AFTER setting with a square. That is why one would look at it!

The 1/16" gap is intentional. Think what would result if the joint overlapped. To prevent an overlap, it is made to be slightly 'short'. Also precise centering is not likely/easy, so the 'shortness' also prevents overlap due to mis-centering.

Anyone here have experience using the Board Buddies on a Mark V 520? I used the Rip-Strate for years but don't have it any more and it is not available.

Your photo of your dado fence attached to the 520 fence does not seems to reveal the existence of t-nuts. Did you attach your dado fence with t-nuts? If so, then I must be not seeing the method of attachment.

Does anyone have a copy of the manual for rip strate that can easily be sent or posted. Thanks for the earlier posts on mounting it to the fence.

Jack, in response to your question about board buddies, I have been using them for years and think they are great. Not too expensive and fairly versatile. I have the ones with the green wheels so I can use them on my bandsaw and router table as well. They roll in both directions so they don't provide the anti-kickback protection of the yellow ones but they do hold the stock down well and have much more versatility. You can purchase the wheels separately from Peachtree Woodworking so you could have the green or orange and the yellow ones and just swap them out when required.

Thanks to the recent activity on this thread, I bought a new-old-stock RipStrate off of eBay. Partly out of curiosity. And partly because I love my Jessem Clear-Cut guides for my router fence, but really didn't want to spend $250 for the table-saw version. My new RipStrate should work just fine, at about a quarter of the price. And it's in pristine condition -- the clamp thumbscrew has never even been installed.

I made a PDF copy of the owner's manual with an iPad camera-scanner app (attached). It ain't perfect, but it was considerably easier than going the flat-bed scanner route. The last page was actually a separate drilling template for the auxiliary fence. It's no longer to scale, but I measured the mounting-hole center-line skew at 2.5 degrees to the fence. Which is interesting, as Jessem uses a 5-degree skew on their Clear-Cut guides.
