My question is whether there would be any reason to put a piece of paper or other material that is one half the thickness of a dollar bill between the table bar and both of the trunnions during the alignment procedure (as opposed to using a dollar bill between the table bar and only one of the trunnions). I guess I'm not sure why dollar bill trick works in the first place.
I think it is necessary to put something there. I didn't and my table tilt is a little tight. When I get the new pins, I will realign with some sort of a spacer during alignment. Dollar bills are thicker than standard paper. That may be why they suggest a dollar bill.

I should have said "Using permanent shims was discussed by Nick and was nixed but I don't remember why. I think it is a discussion on the forum".

He advocates the use of a temporary shim that can be removed after the alignment procedure is completed. Using this shim is believed to eliminate the tension on the trunnions that cause the table to bind when it is tilted. All that is being done is insuring that the trunnions have some room to move (the thickness of the shimming material that is used). All that is needed is a couple thousands.

View the referenced Sawdust Session yourself. The discussion about the dollar bill begins about 12 minutes into the video.

I just got an email that the part is available. Hindge Pin Part #514741 for $2.45 ea.

I ordered two and will replace the rear one as well since I have no idea why the front one sheared. If the movers damaged it during the move, the rear one may be affected as well. :D
I hope we don't let this just slip away. Yes I know Dusty commented on it but to me this is BIG Very few companies will offer this much customer service. I think Shopsmith needs to commended and supportted.

I say everyone here should place an order and if you are a little short on shop funds this month just put it on Dusty's charge card he is loaded.:D

Seriously I think this action just shows us what kind of company Shopsmith is.

WELL DONE SHOPSMITH!

well if "they are watching" (sounds like a creepy alien)..........

Dear Shopsmith,
I'm jealous that I have not recieved the piece of mail everyone is referring to. I recieve your email specials, but it's not the same, I, I just want hardcopy...If my address is not in your system, please contact me by e-mail and I'll send it to you privately, so I don't get chewed out here for that. I should mention, one day soon I 'll be cleaning out your inventory as I have a winning lottery ticket that hasn't been chosen yet. I'll be the best customer since that guy in Arizona recently.

But I don't think that will do the trick.

Maybe we'll all be surprised. Please post the results if you get a response.
