Trunion pivot bolt sheered

I was aligning my shopsmith 510 tonight and I found the front trunion loose. Turns out the pivot pin on the table bar that the trunion pivots on was broken. I looked on the parts breakdown but the pin is not listed.

It is a threaded pin that is easily removed.

Does anyone know if it can be purchaed seperately?

Or does anyone have a broken table & bar Tube assy (#163 on table parts list) that they would be willing to sell the pin?

Even though it is not listed on the parts breakdown, I wood call customer service and ask them. Sometimes they WILL sell a part like that separately. Good luck!

I called shopsmith this morning and according to Dave, the pin is not seperate from the bar and tube assy. $153 for parts I don't need to replace a broken 1/2 inch pin that is threaded for removel. Doesn't make sense to me except for shopsmith to sell parts that arn't needed.

That puts an end to my thoughts on purchasing any upgrades for my shopsmith.

Again, if anyone has a broken bar and tube assy that they want to sell the pins from, let me know! In the meen time, I will check on ebay for a table. It would be cheaper than the bar and tube assy.

Just a though, but perhaps you could fit an appropriately sized bolt instead of the threaded pin. Then you could fill the threads of the pivoting portion of the bolt with JB Weld so that it wouldn't score or wear the mating part. If the bolt head would be a problem, you could hack saw it off and cut a slot in the end so that you could use a screw driver for installation.

I have got to ask how do you think the pin got broken????

In any case could you use a bolt and perhaps file down the shoulder or something?

Go buy a tool that will have totally unavailable parts in five years or less.

Then reconsider!;)

I can understand his frustration.

This forum is here to help.

Lets put our collective heads together and come up with a solution to his problem.

I would think a shoulder bolt with the head cut off would solve the problem.

Might have to also cut some of the threaded end off to have the shoulder where it needs to be.

I would still like to know how this stud broke.

That sounds like a pat answer from Customer Service. Before giving up on Shopsmith, I would call Customer Service and ask to speak to Jan. If Jan tells you there is "no way" then I guess you will have to seek an alternative solution.

Also, patience. It just seems to me that some where in our midst is someone with a broken Table Bar and Tube Assembly (514344) who would readily part with that threaded pin. In the meantime, I'd be making one.

Having said that, I better go look at the trunnion. I did not realize that there was a removable pin for the trunnion to swivel on. I thought it was cast in place.
