I missed Beeg's post before [posting this.
Again I agree most of what I mentioned is not needed by most people. But the point I was making was that Apple computers are not over priced when you consider their specs. You can not spec out a similar PC for less.dusty wrote:Ed, you are absolutely right. I cannot buy or build (even from salvaged parts) a computer with 4k resolution using an i5 cpu. These devices are new on the market and those folks who demand that high level technology are going to keep the prices up for a while. Wait. Generation 6 cpus will be on the market soon and so will "better" monitors.
In the meantime my i4 cpu and the pair of HP2011 monitors I have will serve me well. I am slowing down so there is no need for me to be speeding up my computer. I seldom (if ever) wait for it anyhow. I do need larger monitors but the budget does allow.
Yes, you are correct. I priced an ASUS case at Computer Renaissance this past week end. $1245 for a case (no power supply). Just a metal box with holes drilled in all the right places and a bunch of fans. Almost enough money to do a Shopsmith upgrade. There will be no ASUS computers in this house unless someone gives it to me. Even then. If I had that, I would have to rewire to get rid of all the blinking and strobing lights.
I must agree that this is a strong point (a MAJOR weak point for Microsoft).Ed in Tampa wrote:Again I agree most of what I mentioned is not needed by most people. Whether you buy an Apple or a spec'ed out PC is up to the person buying the machine.
I'm leaning toward Apple for one reason you don't have to mess with a dozen manufactures to get your drivers up to spec. Plus it runs UNIX which is harder to hack.
