Greenie Bench Tube Size

It's not over spray from being painted while assembled, the paint on the end is clearly defined and intentional. Just figured maybe someone knew about some other practices SS was exercising the first few months of production. This is the 1728th machine off the line in '54...

Came across this Greenie in a San Diego CL ad. S#261539, looks all original including the 2 prong plug. It's tough to say from the pics without seeing it in person, but I don't think the bench tubes look painted, maybe clearcoated (but prob not in '50s), waxed heavily or something to that effect (hence lateral scratch lines). But there might be more to the story, including earlier S#'s than 263051.

A very nice looking "A" headstock Greenie. The original bench tube paint was a very light gray.

It's in pretty nice shape and pretty cheap. If I had a way to pick it up from S.D., I would in a heart beat. I contacted the seller, and they confirmed my previous statements (sent me a pic - attached).Exactly like my tubes. I'm honestly starting to think they started out by painting the bench tubes the same green as the frame, but then someone said/decided "that's just too much green"... so they sanded off the paint and left them bare metal like the way tubes. Second batch they might have decided grey would work...
