I don't own one but it should work by forcing to one side or the other. The angle is determined but I don't know how easy it will be to hold it in position while you adjust. This would be akin to using a square with one leg on the bar and one on the protractor.

Use an Incra Miter Bar. They are adjustable so that the slop (approximately .016") can be removed when used in different miter tracks.

I did receive my replacement MiterSet a few weeks ago and decided to give it a test run. It performed as I expected. Very nice tool. I have a miter bar from Incra and a standard SS so I tried it on both. The results were about the same. Both were off by the amount of play in the miter bar. The Incra adjustment didn't make much difference because the slot in the MiterSet is not long enough to allow the adjustment rings on the bar to engage the sides of the slot. On a 2 inch wide piece of stock the four miter method worked pretty well. On 4 inch stock the miters required fine adjustment to mate perfectly. As usual the process required keeping a slight twisting pressure to the miter gauge while cutting to get consistent results. The sled is still a better option for consistent results without doing the fine adjustment routine. I will use the ring version because total accuracy is not necessary as I use the half ring method.

I have found the single cut of a long, straight 'board' to be a suitable(and critically accurate) check.

Mark the top face of the 'board'.

Cut at '90/0'.


Place just cut ends on a flat surface with the marked faces adjacent.

If there is an angle error. the far ends will not align.

I've read all the comments in this thread and I decided to work up an 8 segment ring for discussion. The angles on these segments were set with MiterSet Segments. It took about 10 seconds to set the angles with an extension fence in place on my miter gauge. I used MDF for this test because everything is exposed with MDF and the joints are very clear. The position of the holes on the MiterSet plates are within .001" inch at machining. The important relationship on the plate is between the sector holes and the miter slot. Each MiterSet is engineered with roughly .003" overage in the miter slot to accommodate variances in bar sizes along with adjustment plates and screws on the bar itself. The .003" results in a gap that is inconsequential when considering joints that are under 10" in length. In short, unless you are cutting very wide/long segments the accumulated gap is imperceptible. Also, the table saw and miter gauge would not be the tool of choice for such cuts at that point anyway.

This assembly has not been sanded. It is not glued. The segments are simply drawn together with wire ties. The picture is 3X zoom. At real size it was very hard to see the joints themselves.



I suspect that in any segment joint under 6" in length the variance in the angle would be measured in fractions of seconds. I look forward to your comments.

Andy Klein made a large pizza pie out of oak with joints that were 7 inches long. This is a difficult challenge because any variance in the angle accumulates over the 7" length. See the results here:

The miter set works perfectly for aligning the protractor (on the miter gauge) to the miter bar.

I'm trying to envision what that might look like if the main table (miter track) is not properly aligned to the blade.
