I have obviously been corrected re 'silver'.

The greenie parts that I have are not consistent. I have attributed that to fading.

Nice to see an original(all same date) set of parts.

I seem to have some Mark 2 parts that are green as well.

When possible, can someone post pictures of soda blasting aluminum parts of the shopsmiths. I've been thinking of buying a soda blaster and would like to see the results!

Hopefully Mike I will be blasting my Greenie this week if the weather will cooperate, will post pictures, past experience results in parts that look like raw new castings.

Making Progress, the darker green is as follows.
11 1/2 ml Rustoleum Hammered Silver
5 1/2 ml Rustoleum Deep Green
This equals about a quart.

The Lighter green is a bit more challenging, so far I have come up with 2 parts Rustoleum Gold hammered
2 parts Rustoleum Silver
1/2 parts parts Rustoleum Deep Green

Hopefully will have the light green down to ml (milliliter) tomorrow.

Go to automotive paint store and ask for plastic Paint measuring cup, they are marked in Oz and ml and they are clear for easy measuring, you might have to adjust amounts slightly for different batch numbers from Rustoleum.

Keep in mind I am still playing with Lighter Green

Here's a paint matching tip you might not be aware of.

I wanted to paint my now restored hat box rims on my Ford Jubilee tractor.
I could see that whoever last painted the sheet metal, used the correct Ford Grey, so, gambling that I was right, I took off the skinny center tractor hood and with it under my arm headed down to the auto parts store.

On the way some teens at a stop sign said, "Nice skateboard!"

The parts store put their scanner on that hood, sent the scanner over to Victoria (the big city) and plugged it into their computer. It instantly came up "ford Grey". So I had them mix me up some. it was Valspar Polyurethane -- stayin' glossy so far.

So take some part of your Smith that they can scan for color, and their computer will spit out the paint code for you.

Before I took the hood in, I cleaned and polished it.

Trouble is the automotive and hardware store can't mix hammered paint, that was my first choice, I talked to Rustoleum and their only advice was to mix it myself and any of the Hammered colors could be mixed to achieve the desired color, I have history with paint so I took the challenge, I did use pieces that were covered and did use rubbing compound to remove film to see the true color. If I didn't want Hammered Finish I would have let them mix it.

OK I finished mixing the two Greens today and here is the formula.

The Darker Green on a Greenie is mixed using this formula, all colors are stock Rustoleum Hammered colors available in Quarts.

The darker Green
Silver 19 oz.
Dark Green 9 oz.
Gray 9 oz.
This makes a quart. This darker Green, if it is off cast add more Gray, as that seems to correct the cast the best, add 2 oz. at a time stir, then place a drop on the clean part you are trying to match.

The lighter Green
Gold 12 oz.
Silver 10 oz.
Dark Green 2 oz.
This makes almost a quart. The lighter green, if it is off cast, try adding more Gold First, that seems to solve the problem


You may have to adjust your mix depending on the batch of the colors, that you use, but this is very close to the 2 colors Shopsmith used on Greenies. Do your mixing using parts on your machine, do this before you strip the parts and use a spot that is shaded from light like the bottom of the machine. For best results on the Hammered finish, prime all parts.

Thin for spraying ONLY WITH Xylol, NEVER use Mineral Spirits! This is what Rustoleum says!

Thanks for the information about soda blasting you have provided in this thread and others.

I just blew my budget for other items so the blaster will have wait BUT I am going to get one. I just may strip down my Shorty and redo it (in school colors, maybe).
