Also the AL sanding disk doesn't work with the 510/520 lower guard and even if you are not thinking of it as safety equipment get with the program to collect the dust from the sanding disk.

I always use guards, wasn't always that way but it is now. The old guard system on the 500 was troublesome but once I upgraded to the newer plastic version I've used them. The 510/520 system is even better.

Not a matter of 'sissy stuff' but a matter of lack of hardware for the M5 and very little experience with the 510. Old habits die hard.

Can't say it enough, you guys are a huge asset. So I don't understand the previous Sanding disc arbor statements. The three discs seem to just slide right over the quill and remain in place via set screw. What am I missing?

Second, I'm showing my ignorance but I have no idea what the following 4 items are.

The left looks like a router collet, next to it looks like spacers for the dado blade. 3rd from the left looks like it might be a small lathe faceplate, but not positive. I can't tell what the one on the right is

A - 1/2" router chuck
B - spacers for the dado arbor
C - Replacement arbor for the sanding disk, if it the longer one then it is for the upgrade from the 500 to 510. If it is the shorter one then it is a left over
D - That is the screw center for lathe turning.

I concur on the first two, starting from the left. Second from the right looks like a new replacement arbor for your steel sanding disc, to get the spacing right for a 510 table. The one on the far right looks to me like a lathe screw center, with the wood screw not installed.

The issue come when using the lower guard/dust port. Once that is mounted then the 500 version stuff no longer works correctly. If you don't use the dust port then they fit fine. Once you start sanding with them you might be surprised at how much dust they kick up.

The AL version will not work with the guard/dust port mounted but you can use it on the other side of the headstock.......... if you want.

Ok I see now that the arbor makes the disc sander work with the dust collection. I just don't understand how it's supposed to go onto the disk.

I think I just had the lightbulb come on. I watched Doug Reid's video and he has a different disk. I see what you're saying. This arbor is meant for a later model sanding disk that is plastic. Mine does not need one and will fit on the quill normally just without dust collection. Correct?
