I wondered over that too, and after much investigation, deliberation, cogitation and indigestion I came up with the answer: that screw supports, in my 'shop', the particular allen wrench that drives it, which otherwise would have no discernable porpoise here.

This discussion was had back when Nick was here. He explained, very well, why that screw was needed and what it supposedly did for alignment. I was never able to "get onboard" with the discussion because mine never comes into play.

I have backed mine off completely and I have no alignment issues.

Except for the left spt socket(left extension table).



Well that might explain why the tie bar does not rest upon it!:rolleyes:

If I was to purchase a Mark 7, there would be a bit of relearning in my future. I am used to having an extension table on the right side.

In addition to that, I have used the left end for my jointer for years. I moved the jointer to the "Shorty" and put the Belt Sander where the jointer used to reside.

With a Mark 7, I would be forced to make some changes that I had not even thought about even though I seen the Mark 7 and pictures of same.

I'll have to think about this a lot. The way I have learned to work, I am dependent on SPTs residing on the Mark V. With the Mark 7, every time I needed to tilt I would also need to relocate SPT. This old back and these knees don't do that so well anymore.
