I found out an interesting detail from the seller of the Mark 5 4th edition Manual copy I was talking about above. That seller has several original Manuals they sell copies of on eBay including the original Model 10E typewritten Manual we thought John has the only remaining copy of.

I wonder what his original 10E manual looks like. I have never seen a copy for sale let alone another original. As we have seen mine is in very good shape.

I saw pictures of it in an ad on ebay last week and of course I was going to buy it until I found out it was a copy. The few pictures the ad had of it look as though it was in pretty good shape. As I said they have a number of original manuals they sell "Shop Copies" of. Some people just don't know what is available for free here and the great work Everett has done for us in the Shopsmith community.

Interesting, I check eBay every day but didn't see it. Must have been bought quickly.

It was not clear in the ad if it was a copy or an original. Two different manuals were referenced in the ad. I just checked and it appears they have not re-listed it yet.

Just an update;

Russ has provided me Mark 5 manual versions 4, 5, and 6 (unless we find something that they released we don't know about yet) and I have those to work on.

I also received an email from Wiley Wells who was asking about me since he had not seen posts from me recently.

I am fine, just now retired, sorting through everything I have to make room for my two sons who moved back from Hawaii after the youngest spent 6 years in the Air Force. Both plan to attend Texas Tech. The eldest plans on med school, the youngest law school.

They will have their old rooms they had growing up as a platform to work from.

We have two bedrooms made from the garage in framing stages and plans for a 3rd bathroom. Planning electrical as soon as I get things cleared out that is occupying the space. Space is at a premium right now as the container with their furniture arrived yesterday.

They are heading to Dallas next week to pick up the car that was shipped back to Dallas depot from Hawaii.

I am working to document more motors this fall, including the Pro Planer feed motor brush holder and brushes which I talk about in another recent thread on converting to manual feed. There is also a company who rewinds the armature on at least one these I know of. They appear they are all the high quality Von Weise motors of the period.

Having to have electrician run additional underground laterals from meter to get power in the smaller building I am converting to a shop as I am resizing / re-purposing everything.

I feel certain I will be revisiting the sorting process again as I have too much stuff.... (not Shopsmith of course)...

Glad to know you and the family are OK, but sounds like life has caught up to you in a big way. I know you are glad to have your sons home again, and I hope everything goes well for their futures.
Also, congrats on the results of the Red River Rivalry. Bragging rights for another year.

You sound busier now than when you were working. I know how the household changes when the kids move back in. Last year our daughter, her husband and 5 grandchildren (currently ages 12, 8, 5, 3 and 2) moved in with us. It impacts us all with this many people living here. It has increased my "honey do's" and decreased my Shopsmith time.

You should have editions 5 & 6 from me and Ron Dyck was going to send edition 4. With that you have editions 1 to 6 unless we find other editions in between any of them. I will get edition 7 to you soon. Below is the current list of Mark 5 manuals I know of from 1954 to the 1970's. I do know it is not complete. Anyone having a manual not on the list let us know here and I will add it. Also check the beginning of the thread on getting a copy to Everett. I will update the list below as we find additional manuals.

Newer editions of the manuals were mostly a result of changes to parts on the machine. Most of the setup and operation information, including the pictures, remained the same through the first Shopsmith Inc. manual. With the Magna Power Tool Corporation Manual Copyright 1957 Cat. No. EM 9100-B 4:57 the Parts lists and Drawings were no longer included in the manual but came separate. The manuals no longer required new editions because of part changes. With that change we need the separate parts lists too.

I have been looking through the manuals I have and I believe there is at least one manual between editions 5 and 6 shown above. Manual Copyright 1955 5th Edition Cat. No. EM 9100-10:55* still shows the "A" headstock but is the first Magna PTC Manual. The next Manual I have identified is Copyright 1955 6th Edition Cat. No. EM 9100-A--10:56* with the "B" headstock but about a year after the headstock change in late October 1955. I cannot believe they would go that long without updating the drawings and parts lists. We should see something dated about 11-55 for the headstock change. I will adjust the list for this.

Sounds like I need to gear up for all the parts manual versions as well

I prefer 600dpi scans on pages with illustrations and 300dpi on text only pages both in color not black and white.

My son saved a significant amount of money toward buying a house but no VA lender we have found will loan money based on his VA housing benefits under GI Bill. They considered it not income and without income he can't qualify. I just told him to stay here and save the money. When he graduates he can pay cash for a house.

He still will work as he goes to school but he can reduce his hours for study and save that money too.
