I had to go back to your first post of the machine to remember what it looked like. What progress!! It looks GREAT and it isn't even back together. Nice job.
Exactly what blasting media did you use? The caster foot pedal looks real nice. Grabbed it off your pic above.

Did you blast your tables also? I'd like to see pics of top and bottom sides.

"It looks GREAT and it isn't even back together. Nice job."
That is high praise from you mickyd. Thank you.
it is bead blasted with "Extra Fine Glass Bead Blast Media, Maximum Nominal Diameter 90 Microns, Minimum Nominal Diameter 45 Microns, US Sieve 170-325"
The caster foot pedal is not 'polished' after it was blasted. On the tables, and fence (I'll take a picture when I get home) after blasting I used Schotch bright and then 0000 steel wool on a mouse hand sander to "polish" them smooth. Then they need a coat of wax to keep them that way.
The table legs get the same treatment but I get:p to do that by hand since they are round and not flat, and I don't remove them from the bases so spinning them is out.
The bottom of the tables are left as beaded.

If you look at post 25 on this thread you can see the table top after blasting and before polishing. The bottom looks like this now. I will try to post pictures later.mickyd wrote: Did you blast your tables also? I'd like to see pics of top and bottom sides.

Geez!!! I've missed several days on the forum lately and today is the first time I saw that post. Blasting sure beats paint remover!! Thanks for referring me back to it. Aluminum looks immaculate.mikelst wrote:If you look at post 25 on this thread you can see the table top after blasting and before polishing. The bottom looks like this now. I have a question about my base and headrest. I read recently that the base and headrest assembly's were different on the older 1 7/8" base tubes. Something about some cast spacers??? I have those tubes but... I'm not sure I painted the right castings. I have some spares around here and I may have grabbed them by mistake. Can you look at these pictures and tell me if I have the right castings painted???
These are the ones I have painted.

I think they are the right ones but?
Thanks for you help

This weeks update.
This week has seen me a bit under the weather but just slowed down, not stopped.
During the week My bride and I spent time polishing hardware.
We used scotch bright and elbow grease mostly to get the rust off of old hardware.

This weekend I wired the motor up and got the headstock back together. Now I have done the major assembly.

I started the alignments. I have the Miter Gauge zeroed (using my miterset). Then I did the blade to table for perpendicularity, and square. I have aligned the aux table to the table also.
Still a ways to go but it's a start.

Looks awesome Mike and the more I look at the Greenie's the more i like the color scheme. It definitely looks better newly painted then when i picked mine up in a decades old green haze.
You guy's need a bench grinder and wire wheel to clean that stuff up and polish it. Doing the way you show in the picture is incredibly time consuming. Unless of course you are trying to punish your bride for some unforseen screw up during the rebuild..........
I did all of the hardware on the fine wire wheel first then polished the heads etc. on the 8" buffing wheel. That was the best $120.00 bucks I ever spent as it gets used almost everyday. Got the Delta 8" grinder at Lowes on clearance I think it was $118 + tax. The thing has quick disconnect wheels and guards which is awesome as it only takes a minute to swap out wheels. Plus it has variable speeds and comes with the 8" polishing wheel and a white AlOx wheel for sharpening which i don't really use as I have a Tormek T7 sharpening system for that.
I see your mortising hold down on your rip fence i am curious is that just a place you stuck it or does it function in the rip fence as a holdown??? I have the mortising attachment and holdown but I am missing the collar and bits.

This came with the tool when I bought it and there were no other mortising attachments. It looked like it could be used for a hold down so I cleaned it up and will include it with the tool when it goes to my step father.wannabewoodworker wrote:I see your mortising hold down on your rip fence i am curious is that just a place you stuck it or does it function in the rip fence as a holdown???
