On a related story (see my thread in the other forum, https://forum.shopsmith.com/viewtopic.php?t=11111), I have placed an email claim with Teknatool about my incorrect adapter. I know now why the darned thing won't stay tight and creates problems especially when turning without support from live or dead center from tailstock. I wondered why I was not getting smooth surfaces on my small platters (6" diameter) and this helps to explain at least part of it. Thanks for this Forum. It rules. I'll post when I get some feedback from Teknatool.

I don't understand how having the wrong adapter would cause a turning problem - at least not this particular Nova G3 set screw issue.

If the issue is that some G3s were "out of spec", I do understand how that might become a problem.

IIUC, he had a loosening set screw problem that lead to wobbley. I assume he was provided the incorrect adapter.

It is most likely that he had the wrong adapter if he bought the G3 recently; however, the wobblies are a potential problem even with the correct adapter if the set screw is not secure OR something is out of spec.

I do think that this discussion, here on the forum, has averted numerous potential problems of several descriptions.

Also IIUC, the 'problem' with the 'wrong' adapter was the set screw AA comes loose.

P.S. there are two different set screws. One secures the adapter to the ss shaft, and a second secures the adapter to the chuck.

I have not gone back to read all the posts on this subject but that is not how I recall the issues. As I recall, the only issue had to do with the fact that the new adapter had a different set size screw and that set screw was set at an angle (90° to the taper on the drive shaft).
